FAQ

1. What is the square footage length x width of the area?

2. How deep do you want your product? We recommend a minimum of 3" for base coverage.

First take the inches deep desired divided by 12, take that number and multiple it by your square footage. Now divide this number by 27. The answer will give you the yardage needed. Most of our products have a tonnage conversion, we sell by the ton, listed next to the product on our price sheet, which can be picked up in our office. Multiple your yardage needed by the conversion to tonnage and you have the amount of material you need in tons.

Let’s say I have a 20 ft by 10 ft area I want to cover 3 inches deep.

- 20 ft x 10 ft = 200 sqft

- 3 inches deep / 12 = 0.25

- 200 sqft x 0.25 = 50 sqft

- 50 sqft / 27 = 1.85 yards

Let’s say there are about 1.17 tons per yard in the material I choose.

1.85 yards x 1.17 tons per yard = 2.17 tons

I will need 2.17 tons to cover a 200 sqft area at 3 inches deep.

Note: When loading we try to get as close to your needed/desired tonnage but it will vary slightly, within 1/2 a ton usually. Sometimes a top off is needed or material may have to be taken off your load. It just takes time.
Depending on the situation, the following materials usually fit the need: ABC Cinder, Recycled Concrete, or McCormic AB.

ABC Cinder meets most residential needs while Recycled Concrete meets most commercial aggregate base needs, it meets City and MAG specs.

Disclaimer: Recycled Concrete is, well, recycled and will contain small amounts of debris that wasn't caught before being processed. Please take this into consideration if it will be exposed to foot or vehicle traffic.
For a decorative rock patio we would recommend products that have fines, you will find these products by looking for the word minus. The top three products for this application would be 1/4” minus Madison Gold, 1/4” minus Tan Granite, and 1/2” minus Table Mesa Brown.

If you will be laying down pavers you’ll need an AB product, such as Recycled Concrete, ABC cinder, or McCormic AB. Then you’ll need a layer of mortar sand to smooth out the surface and for locking in pavers.
Aggregate Base products are the best options for a driveway. Top options used are Recycled Asphalt, ABC cinder, and McCormick AB. These products are known for their compaction abilities, they are made of rocks from 1 1/2” to fines also referred to as minus that are about the size of sand. The option for the least amount of dust will be Recycled Asphalt but because it is recycled and the product we receive contains dirt, there will be dust, as in all products. We want the best longevity for you, if you are putting down a new driveway please talk to us. If you are putting down recycled asphalt, for the best coverage we recommend going 6” deep.
